1 Corinthians 15
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
The Lord will provide everything we need if we just have faith. Talking as a former Alcoholic I know first hand what the Lord can do. It started in my late 20s when I was having marriage trouble with my first wife. Our marriage was always in turmoil but we were young and in love. We had 3 children that we brought into the world and even the blessing of children could not stop the fighting between us.
This led her to start going out with her girlfriends on the weekends and me stopping at the bar after work every night. It wasn’t long before I started staying out later after work and she started staying out later on the weekends. Soon the alcohol use turned to using stronger things to help kill the pain of a broken family. My children grew up without a mom and dad and their behavior soon changed for the worse. I always knew in the back of my mind that The Lord would provide for me but I just couldn’t see it at the time.
Alcohol and drugs took over our life and our marriage and family life went into darkness. I wandered around for years in a alcohol and drug induced fog, had several dead end relationships and even another marriage that resulted in divorce. We had moved to Florida because I was seeking a new start for us and our little girl we had.I tried to save the marriage with counseling but she had issues with alcohol and drugs and she started seeing someone else. She would later regret her decision but by then it was too late.
I met the love of my life while my second Wife and I were separated. I had gone to a private club one night with a friend of mine I was working with part time at night. I sat down next to her and just started talking to her like we knew each other all our lives. At the end of the night she invited me to a Halloween party at her house.
I was real nervous about going to the party and kept telling myself I didn’t deserve to have fun and stay home. My Aunt finally talked me into going and I am glad she did. As soon as I arrived she greeted me with a hug and said welcome to the party. There were only a few people there because a lot of the people she invited didn’t show up. She started making me drinks and we started talking about life and found out we had a few things in common.
There was only a couple of guys at the party and she seemed to be interested in me more than any of the other guys. We talked, drank and ate all night and she had a hot tub in her garage that she said we could sit in. I told her I didn’t have a pair of shorts but she said her X left some clothes and there was a pair I could use.
The next thing I knew I woke up the next morning in her bed but I was fully clothed. She said we had been talking and we must of fell asleep. I leaned over and gave her a kiss and said good morning and the next thing you know we were holding each other tight and enjoying each others company. We always laugh when we tell people she invited me to a Halloween party and I never left.
I divorced my first Wife and we got married but the first few years were a little rocky because we were still drinking and didn’t attend Church like we should of been. We moved a few times to different houses and I thought the change of scenery would help. It wasn’t until we moved to Tennessee that our life to a big turn.
One day while unpacking a knock came at the door,I answered it and it was a guy dressed up in a Rebel Uniform who smelled like alcohol and Marijuana. I said what can I help you with and he slurred out i’m here to help protect the South. Being the sarcastic person I was the first thing that came out of my mouth was, looks like the South needs protection from shady characters like you. He started mumbling something and started acting a little aggressive so I told him in a simple to understand message that he needed to get off my porch or I was going to remove him. He left and we never saw him again.
The following day I heard someone on the porch and a knock on the door so the first thing I thought was oh boy looks like we are going to have some butt wooping action today. I opened the door and there stood this older gentleman with a bible in his hand and a smile on his face. He introduced himself and invited us to his Church up the road. He prayed with us before he left and a good feeling came over me and we even prayed for the guy that was drunk and came to the house.
Could this be the sign I was looking for bringing me closer to the Lord. We soon joined his Church and I got Baptized in the local creek. We joked with the Preacher that he should of held me under longer to make sure I was cleansed thoroughly. It wasn’t long after that we started going to Church on a regular basis, quit drugs,alcohol and tobacco and I even preached a couple of times. Let me tell you standing in front of a bunch of people preaching the gospel makes you nervous.
The next few years we changed Churches a few times and started missing services. Eventually our life started getting stressful and money was getting tight. One day we started attending Church again and praying for financial blessings. Things started to come together and we always seemed to have enough money to tithe and pay the bills. We started a catering business and I also did a little woodworking part time. Things are looking up and we just keep reminding ourselves that The Lord will provide.
Thanks for reading,we hope you got inspired to seek the guidance of the Lord in your daily life.
